If you are planning a controlled burn in the County of Lethbridge you need a free permit which you can get by applying online on the county wesite at lethcounty.ca, this avoids unnecessary fire responses, which can be costly to owners.
Some of the requirements for open or controlled burns in the County are:
The fire must be attended at all times by an adult, there must be some fire suppression available in case the fire starts to get out of hand, the weather must be suitable for burning, I.E. not windy. It should also be noted that if smoke drifts across a roadway from a controlled burn, the owner may be held responsible for liability resulting in a Motor Vehicle Collision. This information is only part of what must be considered prior to open burning, it is also not meant to deter responsible people from open burns, but rather to ensure the owners, and public safety.
